Reasons to Visit Bulgaria
Bulgaria is among the most beautiful countries in Europe. It is located on Balkan Peninsula and boasts with its great nature that contains high mountain ranges, vast beautiful lowlands, Black Sea coast with great beaches and summer resorts, balneo and spa centers, ski resorts as well as many other interesting places and attractions.
Thousands of tourists are attracted each year by the great Bulgarian sights, most popular of which is the Black Sea coast. Sunny Beach resort is the most famous and biggest one, located close to the city of Bourgas, followed by Golden Sands resort, which is close to the Sea capital of Bulgaria, Varna. Some tourists prefer these and other Bulgarian sandy beach resorts even to the famous Spain and Greece resorts, which are much more expensive. The nightlife here is active and dynamic and young people can visit any of the restaurants and night bars available.
Along the coast, beautiful small ancient towns of Balchik, Sozopol and Nesebar are located that attract people from all over the world who are interested in archaeology and valuable relics of the past.
The beauty and attraction of this country is not limited to the coast and the beach resorts, which are actually only a small part of Bulgarian treasures. It offers a lot more sights in other parts of the country, where tourists can meet with local people’s culture, traditions and significant landmarks.
One of these popular sights is Rila Monastery, which is the most visited one in Bulgaria. It is located in southwestern part of the country and lies amidst the Rila Mountain’s recesses. This is a scenic place that worth to be visited at least once. The monastery was founded by St. John of Rila, who was a famous hermit that lived in a cave all his life. The constructions works have started in the 10th century, although many reconstructions are made during the centuries.
All nature lovers can visit at least one of the other beautiful attractions that Rila Mountain offers. This is the natural cirque formed by the Seven Rila Lakes. Their names are as follows: “The Tear”, “The Eye”, “The Kidney”, “The Twins”, “Three-Lobed Lake”, “The Fish Lake” and “The Low Lake”. The highest one is located at 2535 meters in height, while the lowest is located at 2095 meters in height. All of them are unique and specific and each of them deserves to be seen. Their names reveal much information about their shape and specifics. For example, “The Eye” is the deepest lake, while “The Twins” is a lake that is split into two parts and is the longest one.
A medieval stronghold Tsarevets is another amazing place to visit. It is located in the former Bulgarian capital Veliko Turnovo, in the area of its old town. The beauty of the city itself is unsurpassed being a natural fortress against enemies.
Another gorgeous place to visit is located in the central Bulgaria, in the beautiful small town of Gabrovo. There is an open ancient ethnographic museum, Etara that shows Bulgarian ethnography, folklore and architecture in its authentic form. Tourists can see how the craftsmen make traditional dishes and other ancient handicrafts and buy them as souvenirs.
